That Albert Einstein, he certainly nailed that one on the head!
What is Intuition and where do I get some? You can learn to Listen to your Intuition in 2018 in 5 Steps.
We all struggle with wanting to make the right choices/decisions in our lives. What to wear, where to go, what to eat, whether to change jobs or quit your job, getting married, having children, parenting choices, ethical decisions of life and death, ageing parents, Do I need to worry right now?, Is my baby ok?… The list seems endless when I think about it.
I am on a path where I am teaching myself how to find my own compass for decision making. Learning to stand IN myself and really figure out how to listen to “My Intuition”, “My Gut Feeling”, “My Instinct” or “My Spirit”. Whatever we call that feeling or voice inside us. I have been teaching myself to HEAR that voice and to FOLLOW it.
It’s is an interesting experiment to reconnect with your “Instinct”. You will inevitably find your own path to that inner voice but you can start with mine if you want to try it. Here are the basic steps I follow to figure out what my “gut” is telling me.
Step 1: Set the intention of wanting to connect to your Intuition
Step 2: Relax your jaw, relax your forehead, relax your shoulders.
Step 3: What is your question? What do you want to achieve? Where do you want to get to?
Step 4: Imagine yourself there. What does it look like? How do you feel when you have achieved it? (Check-in that your jaw, forehead and shoulders are still relaxed)
Step 5: Breathe deeply and know that the answer will come. (Stay relaxed, just stay focused on your breathing)
It’s super easy. It just requires practice. Just like learning to find different constellations at different times of the year. Once you know them, you see them so effortlessly but while you’re learning it can sometimes feel really daunting. You know they are there but can’t seem to figure out where exactly. Setting your bearings according to those constellations is going to take time. You need to know what you are doing and practice. Just like learning to get your bearings from yourself, your “Intuition”.
This may sound all hoytie-toytie to some, maybe even to most. I get it. At the same time, I spend a lot of time with many different people as a midwife. I can tell you that most people I meet are searching for ways to connect to something deeper, just like me. They feel something is missing, that something is just not quite right. Looking for meaning. Looking for more ceremonies and traditions in our lives.
I believe this is in big part because we have become dangerously disconnected from ourselves. We have silenced our Intuition. It used to be the only thing that guided our ancestors and now we have a hard time figuring things out without turning to Google to fix it.
We have forgotten how to check-in with ourselves. We would do well to remember that as humans we are AMAZING problem solvers. Our very existence has depended on it. That, is still in us. It is there waiting. We just need to remember how to tap into it.
You are the only person who can HEAR your own “gut”. You are the only one who can figure out what’s right for you and what you need. You are the only person that can make yourself truly at peace.
Our Intuition connects us to every other human on this planet. We all have it. It can guide us. It is as reliable as the stars. However stars are only useful if you learn reference points (constellations) in order to be able to rely on them. Our Intuition is the same. You can learn some “constellations” for your own internal map and compass. That way you can trust that you are heading in the right direction.
Try it out. What do you have to lose? If it doesn’t work, at least you unclenched your jaw and relaxed your shoulders while breathing deeply for a few moments every once in a while. It’s like everything else, the more you practice this, the better it works.
As we begin the New Year we tend to reflect on the year passed and envision the year to come. I suggest we all take a few moments to check in with our Intuition as we envision these plans for the New Year. Do these thoughts/visions bring you closer to what you want in your life or further away? Stay focused on what’s really important to you. Try the 5 Steps and dream vividly.
Happy New Year! May you recognize moments of PEACE in 2018.
