Most people don’t have a clue what equipment and supplies midwives bring to home births. Most people would have no way of knowing and no reason to find out. Still, I find it funny how surprised many people are when they find out what Ontario midwives bring. What did they think? We just show up and hope that everything goes well and if it doesn’t we shrug? Oh wait, that is what lots of people think. ?
But that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The truth is, Ontario midwives carry almost all of the equipment, supplies and medications that are in a labour and delivery room in a level 1 hospital. For a short video describing all of our “stuff” and how we keep home birth safe check this out:
If you are interested in taking a closer look at all our equipment and hearing midwives talk about how they use their equipment to keep people safe, check out this video. It started as a facebook live so it is informal and unscripted (and kind of long!).
